Internship Placements in Australian Universities

Intern in Australia

Study Australia currently offers several types of internship placements for students and individuals interested in gaining valuable work experience in Australia. The Study Australia Internship Program will give students and recent graduates entry into Australia’s leading organizations and ensures that they receive training compatible with their employment and/or educational history. Academic credit options through U.S. and Australian universities are available for all internships. Paid internships are rarely offered for non-Australian interns.

Eligibility

All applicants are expected to have an appropriate academic background or work experience related to their intended placement duties. The amount of required coursework will vary for each placement. Generally speaking students who have completed at least two years of university and have grade point averages above 2.5 will be eligible for most internships. All students are encouraged to apply as many non-academic factors are taken into consideration.

Living Arrangements

Housing is included with all placements and is generally pre-arranged before the intern departs for Australia. Most students will be housed off-campus although on-campus options exist for longer placements. Students with friends or family in the immediate area of their placement may opt out of the prearranged housing and can subtract USD$150 per week from the program fee. The final living options will vary based on several factors including the duration, location and months of the placement. Shorter placements generally require off-campus, dormitory style arrangements. Housing subsidies (discounts) are available for those students doing internships for six months or longer. Interns should expect commute times between 30 - 60 minutes which is normal for Australians living in large cities.

Meals are not included. Several options are available including self-catering, university residence halls and dining in the local community. In some instances certain housing providers will include meals.

Internship Services Provided:

Work Experience placement services in accordance with the participant’s specifications.
Access to Study Australia Resident Directors based throughout Australia.
Assistance with academic credit issues.
Assistance with academic transcripts from the Australian University or U.S. based academic institution.
A liaison between the student and the employer and the student and their home institution.
Statement of Performance by Host Employer.
Assistance with the essential visa process.
Regular counseling support services for the duration of your internship related to personal, social, legal or other problems that may arise.
Living Arrangements for the duration of the placement.
Airport Reception upon arrival in Australia.
Orientation program upon arrival in Australia.
