Griffith English Language Institute (GELI)Griffith English Language Institute (GELI) is located at Griffith University. GELI provides international students preparing to enter Griffith University or another Australian university an opportunity to improve their English skills through intensive English programs (ELICOS).

It also caters for students wishing to study English for improved language fluency or improved employment prospects.

GELI is accredited to offer English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) at both its Brisbane and Gold Coast Centres.

GELI can also arrange Academic and Professional Programs, which are short courses for groups combining English language instruction and a recreation component.

Mission Statement and Objectives

Griffith English Language Institute’s mission is to assist Griffith University in its pursuit of excellence in the internationalisation of the University.

Its objectives are to assist Griffith University to attain its goal of internationalisation through:

* Provision of high quality second language learning programmes in English
* Promotion of international cross-cultural understanding;
* Promotion of offshore and onshore English programs;
* Recognition, support and extension of English language learning throughout degree studies

GELI Student Activities

At GELI we believe learning English doesn’t stop when students leave the classroom!

We have Activities Officers to provide information on what students can do in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Students can join social and cultural activities, excursions and travel at a discounted cost to students.

Griffith University also has many special interest clubs, societies and sporting teams which students can join to integrate into the university culture, practice conversational English and have fun!

We encourage students to participate in a wide range of activities outside of class time to improve their English, make new friends and enjoy their time in Brisbane.
Examples of class excursions and weekend activities include:

* Trips to beautiful beaches and Islands (Surfer’s Paradise, Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay)
* Theme Parks – Dreamworld, SeaWorld, Australia Zoo
* Cultural events around Brisbane

We also arrange specialised activity programs for study tour groups.
