Description: The University of Adelaide's English Language Centre provides a range of English language programs for international students or Australian students from a non-English speaking background. Programs include the award winning Pre-Enrolment Program (PEP) which provides students with the academic and language skills necessary for successful study in English speaking tertiary institutions. Other programs offered include Pre-Academic English, Intermediate and Advanced English as a Second Language and Business English courses. Short term study tours, for groups of university students from overseas, are very popular and incorporate English language classes and cultural visits with homestay accommodation.

The English Language Centre works closely with the new Bradford College (the international arm of the University Senior College), providing pre-enrolment English for the College's Foundation Studies program.

The centre is committed to offering students the most effective possible ways of developing the ability to communicate in English and to succeed in an English speaking academic environment. We provide quality English language tuition in a university environment and our qualified and experienced teaching staff use well-resourced facilities within the centre.

Facilities: Airport pick-up, homestay accomodation, computer suite, student common room, library facility

Services: Pre-Enrolment English Program
The Pre-Enrolment English Program (PEP) is a unique program for all undergraduate and postgraduate students from language backgrounds other than English, who will be going on to study at an Australian tertiary institution.

The PEP can provide accelerated entry into The University of Adelaide for prospective students who have received conditional offers to the University and also provides an excellent preparation for study to those international students who already have the required English language proficiency score.

The PEP program helps students develop an understanding of Australian academic culture and the ability and confidence in the academic English skills necessary to succeed in their studies, through:

  • oral communication: a willingness to speak out and participate actively in spoken discourse
  • developing significant autonomy in learning and initiative in self-directed study
  • familiarity with, and skills in, Australian tertiary academic styles of thinking, learning and presentation of ideas
  • developing skills required to represent ideas in a variety of written genres in English, including reports and discussion essays
  • familiarity with, and confidence in, accessing student facilities and services, and being comfortable to join the life of your department.
Inbound Study Tour Programs English Language and Cultural Study Tours for groups of students from overseas universities provide high quality academic programs and a wide range of activities, teamed with excellent home-stay accommodation.

The English Language Centre offers highly qualified and committed teachers, classes with a maximum number of 15 students and an innovative teaching program.
