The strengthening by federal and state government legislation of Australia's existing education accreditation and quality assurance processes includes nationally consistent and legally enforceable codes of conduct.
All International Students who come to Australia to study and becomem qualified in their chosen education field have their education and qualification quality protected by the following Federal and State Government education organisations:
Australia Universities Quality Agency (AUQA)
The Australian Universities Quality Agency is an independent, not-for-profit national agency that promotes, audits, and reports on quality assurance in Australian higher education. AUQA monitors key activities of teaching, research, learning and management in Australian universities on a 5 year cycle. It operates independently of governments and the higher education sector under the direction of a Board of Directors. AUQA is owned by and receives core, operational funding from the Commonwealth, State and Territory Ministers for higher education
Australian Vice-Chancellors' Committee (AVCC)
The Vice Chancellor is the most senior person in an Australian university.
The AVCC meets regularly and continually update the 'Code of Ethical Practice
in the Provision of Education to International Students by Australian
Universities'.
Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF)
The Australian Quality Training Framework is an agreement between the Australian Federal Government and State and Territory Governments on nationally consistent training products and quality assurance arrangements for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system. AQTF consists of two sets of standards: one for the State and Territory Accrediting and Registering bodies, and another for VET providers. Institutions wishing to offer vocational education and training courses to students must be 'Registered Training Organisations' (RTOs) and provide evidence of compliance with the AQTF standards.
National Training Quality Council
The Australian Government monitors the operation of the National Quality Training Framework through the National Training Quality Council, which provides advice on the quality issues to the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA).
The Australian Council of Private Education and Training (ACPET)
ACPET is the peak association of private providers of higher education and vocational education and training in Australia. It represents over 400 members in dealing with government, the education and training community and has, as its mission, the enhancement of quality, choice, innovation and diversity in Australian education and training for individual, national and global development.
The Australian Council of Independent Vocational Colleges (ACIVC)
ACIVC is the peak body of private vocational colleges in Australia that deliver business and business-related courses. It promotes quality training and ethical standards and operates its own Tuition Assurance Scheme which guarantees that students will be provided with the tuition for which they have enrolled.
Education Services to Overseas Students (ESOS)
ESOS ensures a nationally consistent approach to education institution
registration and protects all international students on a student visa with consumer and finance protections against any possible fraud or malpractice.
Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas
Students (CRICOS)
CRICOS is a Federal Government agency which governs every Institution that recruits, enrolls or teaches overseas students. It has the power to deregister and impose heavy fines on institutions that abuse their position.
English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS)
ELICOS is a highly regarded national accreditation scheme for English
language teaching centres that sets standards for class sizes, curriculum,
teaching materials and methods and professional qualifications of
teachers.
National ELICOS Accreditation Scheme - (NEAS)
NEAS is Australia's official English language teaching accreditation
system, internationally renowned as world's best practice
in the regulation and quality assurance of English language tuition and study in Australia programs.
English Australia (EA)
English Australia is a group of 65 colleges working to high professional standards set by the ELICOS Association, the association of centres teaching
English to international students in Australia. These colleges which
have library and video facilities and language laboratories give
a guarantee of fee and quality security.
National Liaison Committee (NLC)
The NLC represents international students in Australia. They form a good network for international students meet and lobby influencial players in the Australian education sector.
Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
AQF is a national system of learning pathways covering 12 different
qualifications and linking universities, school education and vocational
training and education. This allows students to move easily from
one level of study to the next and from one institution to another
as long as they satisfy student visa requirements. The AQF encourages
continuous learning and also provides more flexibility in career
planning.
National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR)
NOOSR is a government organisation that assists Australian institutions
to recognise qualifications from overseas, and promote
the recognition of Australian qualifications internationally.
